Classifications
  • Editor I edit all day and night . I've worked on housefly genetics, historical romance, chick lit, young adult classics, neuropsychology ... I'm addicted.
  • Writer -   I just started my first novel, and I decided to write a romance instead of the historical literary tale I've been plotting for years. I'm thinking of the romance as a warm-up.  I also write and publish short fiction and poetry, but hardly enough lately. I flog myself regularly for not writing regularly and submitting work. I do participate in readings once in a while but I desperately need a new set of poems. I have a list of publications here. My friend has a good blog, and he is an excellent writer so I decided to blog about writing and other nonsense. You can follow things here .
  • Reader - I read as much as I can. I need to finish Writing the Breakout Novel by Donald Maass, recommended by a friend who wrote two novels. I think the book makes very good points, and it's forced me to rethink aspects of my novel. I also read The Art of Romantic Writing by Valerie Parv. I do read a couple magazines ( Tricycle , donna hay ), and we get Every Day with Rachael Ray and Cook's Illustrated. I read poems regularly. Whenever I travel I always pick up one or two local poet books as souvenirs. Last one I picked up was in Freeport, ME.
  • Music Lover - I'm rather addicted to music. I enjoy most types, but prog rock, folk, and jazz are at the top of the list.  I go to concerts when I get the chance (2007 is The Police and Genesis among others ... although see my post on concerts !!).  I own a turntable (remember those, children?), and I still spin records. They just don't make real album covers anymore!
  • Collector -  I collect a number of things, including pop bead necklaces and Robin Hood texts. I was planning on using the many books to trace the development of the Robin Hood folktale from the 1800s through present day, but see the second classification to understand why that won't be happening any time soon.
  • Sports Fan -  These days I enjoy football and golf predominantly. I do like baseball and hockey (go Devils!), but over the last few years the magic has been taken out of them ... too much like businesses (but aren't they all?). I also adore Fantasy Football leagues.

Review: Billed as a comedy, I laughed three times and was nauseated the rest of the time.  And there wasn't even a good romance out of it.  C -
